Lightning Strike Damages Two Floors of Home

Residents of a home on Spruce Lane are looking at $75,000 in damage after a lightning strike yesterday afternoon.

The Osage Beach Fire Protection District was called to a residence off of Port Lane near Blue Moon Marina at just after two. Fire Chief Jeff Dorhauer describes what crews found when they arrived.

“First crews on the scene had heavy smoke coming from the roof, mild immediate flames and made entry into the house. Nobody was home so they had to force their way in. They made entry to the attic up above and found the fire and was able to extinguish it,” said Dorhauer.

The chief says damage was heavy on some areas of the home.

“The house was probably 2500 to 3000 square feet on three levels. The roof sustained heavy damage where the lightning hit and burned through the roof. The attic sustained heavy damage, the second floor, probably moderate damage, and other than smoke and water, nothing on the floors below.”

Osage Beach Fire was assisted by a ladder from Lake Ozark Fire and an engine from Mid County. Crews were on scene for about 90 minutes.
