Whiteman AFB and Fort Leonard Wood Getting Funding

A bill that passes the US House will fund over one hundred thirty million dollars in projects at Whiteman Air Force Base and Fort Leonard Wood. 

House resolution fifty eight twenty two passed yesterday by a vote of four hundred eleven to six.  Congressman Ike Skelton said after voting yes on the bill that it will keep Missouri’s military installations strong and provide care to the veterans that they have earned.  Looking at funding, the bill gives Whiteman 23.5 million dollars for a consolidated air operations facility.  At Fort Leonard Wood, 7 million will be give for a general instruction building, 12.2 million for a brigade headquarters, 15.5 million for a information systems facility, 19 million for a training barracks, 29 million for a transient advanced trainee barracks, and 29 million for an enlisted personnel barracks.  House resolution 5822 also provides funds for the VA to treat the expected 6.1 million patients that will need assistance in 2012.  The resolution also adds 4000 claims processors to expedite claims processing, a staff increase of almost 25 percent.  Additionally 5822 targets rural veterans’ health care access and nationwide mental health funding. The resolution now goes to the Senate for consideration.
