Standoff Close to 48 Hour Mark (posting at 12:30 Saturday)
A standoff with a Miller County man wanted for questioning in a shooting is closing in on the 48 hour mark.
Missouri State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement are on scene at VFW Road south of Eldon, near the intersection with Witt Road. The Miller County Sheriff’s Department confirmed this morning the road is still blocked.
The unidentified man, who has his two children in the house with him, apparently shot and injured a dog Thursday night about 6:30. The man’s neighbor, Joan Short, was outside, and yelled at the man. He then fired several rounds at her, one which hit.
She was flown to a hospital in Columbia and is recovering.
Authorities were called Thursday and the man refused to leave the home. Authorities are waiting for the man to surrender.
If you are traveling Saturday about 4 miles south of Eldon, use alternate routes in the area of VFW Road and Witt Road.
