Bridge Coming Down Next Tuesday
The old Highway 17 bridge across the Osage River will be coming down weather permitting before the end of the month.
MoDOT has announced that they will set off a charge at 8:30 in the morning on Tuesday August 31st that will drop a large portion of the Depression era bridge into the river below.
The bridge, built in 1933, is only twenty feet upstream from the brand new bridge that opened August 16th. For drivers on the morning of the thirty first, traffic across the new Osage River Bridge will halted for about 20 minutes to allow for the detonation.
For spectators, you will be allowed to watch from the commuter parking lot at Highway 17 and 52. The demolition will also be able to be seen from the lawn of the old Miller County Courthouse on Bluff Street in Tuscumbia.
