Old Bridge Becomes Osage River Water Hazard

The old Osage River Bridge in Tuscumbia is now a temporary water hazard.

This morning crews dropped a portion of the 1930’s bridge into the river with a controlled detonation.  Because of the demolition travel up and down stream past the submerged bridge is restricted. The water patrol has placed lighted danger buoys in the area of the submerged bridge.

The new $8.5 million dollar bridge, which opened back on August 16th, was built by APAC of Kansas City.  The new bridge is eight feet wider and has shoulders.  Nearly one half of a mile of new roadway was also constructed on the south side of the bridge to improve visibility for drivers.
