OBPD, IRS Warn of Scam Artists Posing as IRS Agents

Osage Beach police say an elderly woman received a call from a man posing as an IRS agent wanting to “update her information” in their file. She became suspicious, didn’t answer his questions, and called police because she wanted to warn others. Internal Revenue Service representative Peggy Riley says identity theft scams peak during filing season as people prepare their tax returns:

Anyone who believes their personal information has been stolen and used for tax purposes should immediately contact the IRS.
