UPDATE: Charges Filed in Traffic Stop-Turned-Chase; Deputy Recovering

A Camden County sheriff’s deputy is recovering after being dragged by a car thru a west Camdenton restaurant parking lot Wednesday while trying to make an arrest. The deputy attempted to stop a driver for having expired license plates, but instead of pulling over, Sheriff’s Captain Kelly Luttell says Dustin Burkhart tried to get away:

Burkhart sped off on Highway 54 and was eventually taken into custody at his home on State Route BB in Montreal. Luttrell says the deputy wasn’t seriously hurt:

Burkhart has been charged with first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree assault, resisting arrest, driving while revoked, and failure to register a motor vehicle. His bond has been set at $40,000 cash, $200,000 surety.
