Lake Area State Rep Introduces Violent Video Game Tax Bill

A Lake area state lawmaker wants to see a tax imposed on violent video games.  Yesterday, Republican House Member Diane Franklin of Camdenton introduced House Bill 157 that would levy an excise tax on sales of all violent video games.  The one percent tax would be based on the gross receipts or gross proceeds of each sale.  A violent video game would be defined as a video or computer game that has received a rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board of Teen, Mature, or Adult Only.  The revenue generated by the tax would be deposited in the state general revenue fund and appropriated solely for the treatment of mental health conditions associated with exposure to violent video games.
