Morgan County Voters to Consider Use Tax
Thursday, January 24th, 2013
Morgan County joins Camden County, and the cities of Camdenton, Laurie and Osage Beach, in placing a use tax on the ballot in the April 2nd election. Voters will be asked to approve a 1-1/2 percent tax on out-of-state purchases and private sales of vehicles and boats, to replace revenue lost as a result of a Missouri Supreme Court ruling last year declaring city and county sales taxes on those items unconstitutional. Morgan County stands to lose nearly $86,000 a year as a result of that decision. Western District Commissioner Wayne Kroeschen says if the use tax isn’t approved, commissioners will have to consider cuts to the county services.
