$600 Up for Grabs in “Keep it Cool” Contest

The Rural Missouri and Associated Electric Cooperatives are working together to sponsor a big recipe contest called “Keep It Cool”. The program allows amateur cooks who are a member of the 48 cooperatives in the state to showcase their culinary talents and win up to $600 dollars in prize money. The contest will feature five categories including an appetizer, side dish, salad, a main dish and desert. The only catch to the event is that if your recipe requires something to be heated, you have to use a microwave to do so. This is the main part in the “Keep it cool” campaign where the co-ops are suggesting that people can prepare meals in the microwave instead of heating up the home with the stove when running the air condition, a way to save energy and money. There is a $100 prize for each category with the grand prize of $500 that will be awarded to the selected winners in the July issue of the Heart of Rural Missouri magazine. Entries must be postmarked by March 20 and mailed to Rural Missouri Recipe Contest, P.O. Box 1645 , Jefferson City , MO 65102 . Or you may enter online at www.ruralmissouri.coop/recipecontest.php.
