…Winter Storm Warning in effect from midnight tonight to 7 pm CDT Sunday…
The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow…which is in effect from midnight tonight to 7 pm CDT Sunday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.
* Timing and areas affected…snow is expected to begin after midnight into the early morning hours on Sunday and continue through Sunday afternoon. The snow will gradually end from west to east Sunday afternoon.
* Snow accumulations…snow accumulations near or in excess of 6 inches will be likely across central Missouri including the Lake of the Ozarks region. Localized heavier amounts up to 8 inches will be possible.
* Winds and visibility…wind gusts up to 35 mph may cause blowing and drifting of snow. This may reduce visibilities down to less than half a mile at times.
* Impacts…travel will likely become difficult and hazardous with snow and blowing snow creating snow packed roads.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel…consider taking a winter storm kit along with you. This kit should include such items as tire chains…booster cables…a flashlight…shovel…blankets…extra clothing and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
