Argument May Be Cause of Morgan County Shooting
Self defense is said to be the motive for a shooting last weekend on Wolfe Way off of Forest Drive in Gravois Mills. According to a probable cause statement, 29-year old Timothy Stovall shot 65-year old Leon Cott twice in the head with a handgun after Cott came at him with a machete. This happened after an argument between the two men. After the shooting, Stovall left the scene and drove back to his home in Versailles where he was later taken into custody. The gun believed to be used in the shooting was recovered at Stovall’s home. Cott was taken by helicopter to a Columbia hospital where he had surgery and is expected to recover. Stovall is charged with assault and felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in the Morgan County Jail on a bond of 500 thousand dollars ten percent cash or surety.
