Black Bear Dies Near Versailles

black bearThe Lake of the Ozarks is fast becoming the new home for a specific kind of wildlife. Sightings of Black Bears are more common place today than they once were. Agent Derek Warnke with the Department of Conservation’s Camdenton office says he’s happy they’ve made their way to our area.

Warnke says he recently came across a bear near Versailles that had died after becoming entangled in a barbed wire fence.

Warnke says Black Bears are a welcome addition to the local wildlife population and adds residents need to remember they are wild animals and need to show them proper respect.
