A number organizations are reminding lake area residents that April is National Child Abuse Awareness/Prevention Month. National statistics estimate that over four deaths are caused by child abuse everyday and that number has been on the rise since 2000. Cara Gerdiman is with kids harbor. She says the organization exists to help children across the Lake of the Ozarks that have been abused.
Gerdiman says child abuse crosses all social and economic lines and often goes unreported. Kids Harbor is a non-profit organization that relies on the community for donations in order to continue to provide services.
