Residents at the Lake of the Ozarks are being alerted to a scam that involves U.S. Postal Service money orders sent in the mail. The Better Business Bureau says scams like this are very common and typically involve lottery winnings and the publishers clearing house. The B.B.B says a letter attached to the money order asks people to cash the money at the bank and send a portion of it back immediately after for various fees. The check ends up bouncing and whatever money was withdrawn the consumer must then pay back to the bank. Officials say with today’s technology, scammers have the ability to make almost identical copies of money orders.
