It’s too high, again. That’s the official word from the Sunrise Beach Board of Trustee’s on the most recent submission of bids to widen Highway 5. This is the second time that the village has come into this issue where contractors bidding on the widening project have come in significantly over the budgeted numbers, leaving the question did the original engineer improperly price out the project? APAC was yet again the lowest bidder coming in over $450,000 dollars over the budget which is $1,136,000. The plan was to widen a stretch of Highway 5 between Jet Ski Road and Lake Road 5-36 going from two lanes to a two lane and a turn lane setup. The program similar to the Osage Beach Parkway Extension is a 50/50 between the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Cost Share Program and the Village of Sunrise Beach. At this time, village officials cannot put any more dollars to the project.
