Legislation that would allow breastfeeding mothers to nurse in public as well as be excused from jury duty has been approved by the Missouri House of Representatives. House bill 1320 received unanimous bi-partisan support and protects nursing mothers against the state’s definition of sexual conduct and laws that govern indecent exposure. Breastfeeding women could also be excused from jury duty if they obtain a doctor’s note. The measure was introduced following an incident in which a Lees Summit woman was held in contempt of court for bringing her seven month old son to jury selection. The bill now goes to the senate for consideration.
