The cause of elevated E. coli levels at the Lake of the Ozarks has been released.  A report from the U.S. Geological Survey Department lists three causes for the elevated levels including droppings from waterfowl, septic sewer systems connected to nearby buildings and sediment along the beach.  State Representative Rocky Miller says this is good news because all three problems indicated in the report have already been addressed.  He adds this is the most tested lake in the state and the new system of posting notification that informs swimmers of elevated levels of E. coli, but leaves the beach open, acknowledges the reality that this is an open body of water, in nature, and these are the things people need to watch out for.
