Make sure to buckle up when you are driving around the lake area because now through June 1st the Osage Beach Police Department will be joining with other law enforcement agencies for the “click it or ticket” campaign. Missouri has an 80 percent seat belt use, which is below the national average of 86 percent. To help increase seat belt use this year’s campaign will focus on unbelted drivers and passengers as well as child safety seat violations extra efforts will be made by police with an increased presence on the roads and highways around the lake. In 2013, 334 vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes were unbuckled. Seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes so the hope of this campaign is to get more drivers to protect themselves by using seat belts properly.
