5 Lake Area students are celebrating today after winning a special award given by Columbia College Lake of the Ozarks. The scholarship named in honor of, Gerald ‘Phil’ Davis, a former Columbia College student, was created in 1996 by his wife, Barbara Davis, and Dr. Mary Luetkemeyer, an English professor at the time. This year’s award winners include Lori Curtman of Iberia, Tim Schull of Rocky Mount and David Walker from Lake Ozark who all won $1,000 dollar scholarship and April Cotton of Eldon along with Kristen Diefenbach of Tuscumbia who won a $500 dollar scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be of junior or senior status, maintain a 3.0 GPA and make a positive contribution to the campus community. Campus faculty members nominate and select the winners each spring.
