Common Core is back in the news as the Missouri senate has started debate on the issue. The legislation was set aside last night for future debate as senators worked thru various amendments. The bill would implement new goals for English, Math, Science and History by the 2016 academic year. Students are scheduled to take tests this fall aligned to the common core standards. Critics say lawmakers should have been consulted when the state board of education adopted the benchmarks in 2010. Under the proposed measure, Missouri could still choose to follow common core or adopt certain parts of the benchmarks.
