Food Stamp Use Rises In Camden County

The use of Food Stamps continues to increase throughout Camden County. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services (USDA) reported that 13.9 percent of Camden County residents in 2011 received food stamps, which is an increase of 1.5 percent in 2007.  According to the report, incomes are lower in nonmetropolitan counties like Camden County which qualifies many households for the food stamp program. In 2011, the median household income in camden county was $41,000 compared to the Missouri median of $46,000. Local grocers say they feel the impact of food stamps and other USDA Nutrition Programs throughout the county.
