Governor Jay Nixon has signed a bill aimed at protecting students’ religious expression in public schools.   The legislation protects students from discrimination for expressing their religious viewpoints in homework, artwork, and other class assignments. The legislation also says students can pray at school and wear clothing and jewelry displaying religious messages to the same extent that other types of clothes and accessories are allowed. Another part of the bill allows student religious groups to have the same access to school facilities as other kinds of non-curricular groups.
