The Laurie Board of Aldermen approved a pay raise increase for four employees during a closed session meeting on Tuesday. The employees who received the pay increases were public works employees Dean Smith, Brian Scheiter and Larry Westfall, as well as Assistant City Clerk Barb Cameron. The board also approved moving Smith from the Maintenance Department to the Water and Sewer Department. Even with the pay raises, the city will save approximately $40,000 annually due to the recent elimination of the public works director position, and the reorganization of employee responsibilities. In other business, the board approved the mayor’s appointment of Doug Mattenlee, resident of Wellington Woods subdivision, to the Laurie Planning and Zoning Commission. Mattenlee will replace Chris Jackson whose term is expiring. The next meeting of the Laurie Board of Aldermen is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Laurie City Hall.
