Low-Income Workers Request Medicaid Expansion in Missouri

Low-income workers are asking Missouri lawmakers to expand Medicaid coverage. Witnesses testified Tuesday before a House committee asking lawmakers to expand Medicaid eligibility to adults earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level nearly $33,000 for a family of four. Several people told lawmakers they are living in poverty, yet they don’t qualify for Missouri’s current Medicaid program making it hard to get the help they need for health problems. At this time, Missouri’s Republican-led Legislature has rejected the expansion because of concerns about future costs.
