The Morgan County Sheriff’s office is warning residents about a phone scam going around. An elderly female recently received a phone call telling her that her granddaughter was in jail. The callers told the woman that the granddaughter was in a car accident out of state and was arrested for not having insurance. The callers then convinced the woman to go buy $2100 in gift cards from Wal-Mart to use as bond. The Sheriff’s office says NO agency will accept gift cards as bond payment. If you get such a call, always verify the situation with the alleged arresting agency or the person that was supposedly arrested.
