A new state law that goes into effect next month could make it harder for some lake area residents to get unemployment benefits. The bill changes the definition of “misconduct” in relation to employment so that it’s harder for people to get unemployment benefits after violating an employer’s rules or even state standards that could get an employer in trouble. Tracy King is the Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce. She says fewer people getting benefits will take pressure off the unemployment trust fund.
The new law goes into effect on august 28th.
