Nixon signs Telecommunications Bills Into Law

Cell Phone Tower

Governor Jay Nixon has signed four telecommunications bills into law.  Many of the provisions were found in a telecommunications bill enacted in 2013 but were struck down by a Cole County Judge on procedural grounds.  A number of lake area communities have come out in opposition to the legislation due in part to the 19 new restrictions that will now be imposed on the way local governments may regulate cell phone towers.  However, telecommunications companies supported the legislation and claimed local regulation hindered expansion of high speed internet service across the State.
