Teachers and Administrators will remain unarmed in Missouri’s Public Schools. Governor Jay Nixon vetoed a bill yesterday (Moday) which would have allowed school districts to designate certain personnel as School Protection Officers, authorizing them to carry concealed firearms in school buildings and classrooms. Nixon says arming teachers will not make schools safer and believes it’s simply the wrong approach. In other news from the education front, the Governor did sign legislation that tasks groups of parents and educators with writing new standards to replace common core. The new standards are to be put in place by 2016. For now, the controversial federal program remains in place.
