The Missouri Public Service Commission wants to lower your phone bill. The PSC recently announced its plans for telephone customers still using wired land lines at home for local and in state. The surcharge that customers pay to the Missouri universal service fund will be reduced. The surcharge currently at the percentage of .17 translates to 8.5 cents per $50 bill. The new rate of a percentage of .10 translates to 5 cents per $50 bill. The new rate is scheduled to take effect on October 1st of this year. Along with that, qualifying low income and disabled customers will now see an increase of $3.00 per month in the amount of financial assistance they receive for basic wire line home service.
