Red Cross Campaign To Reduce Drownings

red crossEfforts to reduce the number of drownings at the Lake of the Ozarks are now underway. The American Red Cross has launched a new campaign both locally and nationally to reduce drownings and promote safe swimming. For the past 100 years the organization has been educating people about the basic swimming skills that could save their life. A recent study conducted by the Red Cross shows that 80 percent of Americans believe they can swim, but only 56 percent can perform all five of the basic safety skills. Every day, an average of ten people died in the U.S. from drowning. So far this year, a total of 24 people have drowned in Missouri. Information on water safety can be found at http://redcross.org
