Republicans Could Gain Vetoproof Majority

electionsSpecial elections Tuesday could give Republicans a veto proof majority in the State’s House of Representatives. Special elections are being held in the 67th district in St. Louis County, the 120th district in East Central Missouri and the 151st district in the Southeast part of the state. Republicans need to win just one of them to regain a veto proof majority. Winners will likely take office by the September 10th veto session which means they could provide pivotal votes when lawmakers consider overriding Governor Nixon’s vetoes on such things as budget items, tax breaks and abortion restrictions.
