A Springfield man who is scheduled to go on trial in Camden County later this month may see his trial once again continued. 21 year old Benjamin Stidham who is the last of four defendants to stand trial for a 2009 triple murder has a pre-trial conference scheduled for May 12th with a bench trial to follow on May 19th. The case was moved to Camden County on a change of venue and Laclede County prosecuting attorney Jon Morris says he’s less than confident the trial will go forward later this month. The hold up on the case is due to the fact that Stidham was only 17 at the time of the alleged crimes and a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling rendered Missouri’s law on sentencing minors in first degree murder cases unconstitutional. A bill addressing the issue is stuck in the Missouri senate.
