Three boating accidents occurred within 24 hours of each other at the Lake of the Ozarks. The first accident left two drivers in serious condition who were competing in the Shootout. 47 year old Joel Begin and 44 year old Michael Fiore were making their first run at 179 miles per hour when the boat became airborne, flipped over twice and landed bow first, coming to rest end over end on the water. Both received serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The second incident on Saturday resulted in extensive damage to two personal watercraft at the seven mile marker of the Glaize Arm. 23 year old Gregory Christian of Dixon was traveling eastbound when he collided with another personal watercraft heading westbound driven by 22 year old Jason Howard of Mercellus, New York. Christian’s vessel was totaled while Howard’s received moderate damage. There were no injuries reported. In a separate incident on Sunday, 42 year old Travis Reed of Lee Summit was traveling at a high rate of speed when his race boat spun out and overturned. Reed was not injured and officials with the Shootout say he was not competing at the time of the accident.
