With a little more than two months to go, the water patrol division of the Missouri Highway Patrol is putting out the word early about revised navigational restrictions to be in place for this year’s Shootout event. Superintendent Colonel Sandra K. Karsten says the no wake restriction, from the 31.5-mile mark to the 36-mile mark of the main channel, is being extended on Saturday of the event down to about the 21-mile mark. Hours for the extended no wake will be from 12-7 that day, August 25th. That’s been modified and is an hour shorter than originally planned. The change was made to better accommodate boaters trying to get home before sunset. Colonel Karsten explains that the extended zone and times will help in maintaining a safe boating environment and minimize any property damage when the event comes to an end with most of the departing traffic heading downstream. A large spectator fleet is expected for the two-day event with most taking in the action that Saturday.
