Efforts by three Laclede County inmates to break out of jail earlier this week were squashed by officers who found them crawling around in the ceiling. According to reports, a jail intake tower operator observed an inmate in “E” pod blocking her view of a utilities closet. The jailer reported seeing the door to the closet open which is normally locked with a padlock. Deputies then went to “E” pod and put the inmates on lockdown. It was then that they found three inmates missing who were then located in the ceiling.
