Electronic signs in the city of Camdenton may be a little more lively during the day after a 30 day moratorium on content is passed at last night’s board meeting.
A representative of Farmers Insurance on Highway 54 asked the board to consider allowing animation and commercials on their electronic sign, two elements not allowed under current ordinances. After some discussion the board agreed that the electronic sign ordinance would be suspended starting 30 minutes after sunrise and 30 minutes before dark, allowing the city to see what may be put up during the daytime and make a decision on what to allow at night.
Third Ward Alderman Sandy Osborn was a vocal opponent back when the sign issue was first raised a few years back but says now she just wants drivers to be safe.
The city will be contacting other electronic sign owners like Sonic and St. George Episcopal Church to notify them about the 30 day moratorium.
