The United States Department of Agriculture turned down a funding request by the Rocky Mount Sewer District because they believed citizens in the district were not in favor of a central sewer system.
In response, the district surveyed property owners. The results reveal that more than 400 potential customers, have already given easement rights to connect to the system, 94 percent of respondents who were sent a letter are in support of a system, ninety-seven percent who were sent an email said they are in support, and 100 percent of 24 realtors® surveyed said they were also in favor of a central sewer system. The district has submitted the results to USDA.
According to Schultz Surveying and Engineering Lake Manager Mike DeLong, the district is on the top of the list for a $3 million Department of Natural Resources grant and a $1.4 million loan. .
