Public Schools across the state are fully shutdown.

According to the Department of Elementary and Secondary education, in an effort to help curb the spread of the coronavirus some 555 school districts housing over 900,000 students officially shut their doors voluntarily Thursday afternoon.

In addition, all statewide required assessments are also canceled. It remains unknown when schools will return, however some districts are anticipating a return in April or May, depending on the spread of the virus.

Two schools in the St. Louis area have already canceled classes until the summer.
