2014 marks the 18th anniversary for the amber alert system. Yesterday was national amber alert day and according to the Missouri state highway patrol, the date is an important reminder to Missourians to stay vigilant and to make child protection a top priority. An amber alert warns the public immediately through the emergency alert system to be on the look-out for a missing child and the abductor. Over this past weekend, the amber alert system was used to help locate a 6 month old Anderson, Missouri baby that was abducted by his parents and then located safe and sound in Miami, Florida. The program was adopted across the country as a legacy to Amber Hagerman, the nine year-old girl who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas and then brutally murdered.
