Ameren Missouri has announced that they are beginning their winter draw down at Lake of the Ozarks. Ameren shoreline management supervisor Jeff Green says dock owners both above and below Bagnell Dam should follow some simple tips to prevent or reduce damages during this period.
1) Ensure that hinges and other connections have flexibility to follow changing water levels;
2) Lengthen cables to allow docks to drop as the lake or river drops;
3) Use a dock de-icer to protect against ice damage;
4) And ask neighbors to keep an eye on your dock or retain a contractor to do so when your place is unoccupied.
The lake is typically lowered to about 654-feet above sea level during the winter months to make way for potential flooding during spring rains. Levels below the dam also depend on the demand for power during the winter.
