Dock owners on the lake as well as the Osage River are being encouraged to start preparing now for the approaching winter drawdown. Ameren says they’ll begin the annual practice of lowering the lake level in January. It’s done each year to clear room in the reservoir for heavy spring rains. They say people below the dam should remove docks before freezing occurs. Those who leave docks on the water should take steps to winterize them, including:
– Lengthening your connector cables
– Ensure your hinges and other connections are flexible enough to follow fluctuating water levels
– Use a dock deicer
– Ask neighbors to keep an eye on your dock or retain a contractor who can respond to the site if your property is going to be unoccupied
You’re also encouraged to monitor lake and river levels. You can do so online or by calling 573-365-9205.
