Ameren is planning to make major changes to how they power Missouri after the E.P.A. hands down a ruling that would affect the majority of its coal fire plants in the state. The ruling which came out earlier this year puts strict rules on coal plants nationwide and Ameren has responded by setting goals to change how they produce our power. Ameren is planning to reduce the coal power from 77% last year to 62% by 2034. They are planning to shut down six of their coal plants and replacing them with Natural Gas, Wind, Sunlight and Methane Gas from Landfills. Officials believe this will result in a 30% reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions by 2035.
