The American Legion Post 229 is requesting that the stretch of Highway 54 between the Osage River bridge and Mexicali Blues be named the “Veterans Memorial Expressway.” In order to do this, the legion will need to collect signatures to submit to the state government for approval and raise $4,800 for the signs. The request is being endorsed by several area governments and businesses. More information below:

Ref: Naming of new highway
The American Legion Post 229 of Lake Ozark is requesting that the Missouri Dept of Transportation (MODOT) name the new stretch of highway 54 the VETERANS MEMORIAL EXPRESSWAY.
MODOT is being asked to apply that name to the highway from the Osage River bridge below the dam to the area of the Veterans Administration Clinic near HMI Fireplace and Mexicali Blues.

State Rep Rocky Miller ….State Sen Mike Kehoe
The Lake Area Marine Corps League
The Miller County Commission
In order for MODOT to approve this, the Legion will have to get a petition signed by 100 residents to go to the Missouri Senate which Sen Mike Kehoe will then sponsor in the Senate, and 100 signatures on a petition to go to the Missouri House of Representatives which Rep Rocky Miller with then sponsor.
The Legion will have tables set up at various locations this fall to get the needed signatures.
The Legion will then have to raise $4800 to pay for the signs.
The drive is being coordinated by Legion Member Byron Grimes, the post Chaplain
Grimes said that this in no way will change or have any effect on the section designated as Lee Mace Memorial Highway, that section runs from the 54 exit on the old 54 to the main bank of Central Bank in Osage Beach
