A recent event featuring school-aged archers produced a record turnout. The Missouri National Archery in Schools Program held their 10th annual state championship in Branson last weekend. More than 3100 kids in grades 4-12 competed for state titles. Carolyn Handtke with the Department of Conservation Heritage Foundation says even though it’s been around awhile, the program is now really starting to grow.
More than 12,000 students from over 700 schools participate. Handtke says it’s paying big benefits and opening new doors.
The championship provided a big economic boost, as well, drawing more than 10,000 spectators.
