A Camdenton man has been arrested on murder charges. David W. Smith has been charged with the first degree murder of Shawn Spencer stemming from an alleged shooting dating back almost a decade. On April 1st, 2006 deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Silver Mountain Drive in Camdenton but cleared the scene at that time, determining the call to be unfounded. In April of 2007, Spencer’s mother came to the sheriff’s office to report her son missing. In June of 2011, detectives contacted an out of state witness who claimed to have seen David Smith shoot Spencer. Detectives conducted a supplemental investigation and in September conducted another search of Smith’s property but came up empty. Last week, another witness came forward and after a subsequent investigation, detectives arrested Smith. He is currently being held without bond in the Camden County jail.
