The state’s new Attorney General is warning against those who might try to gouge customers during the winter storm. Gouging refers to artificially inflating prices on necessities during or after a disaster, natural or otherwise. The types of products covered by Missouri’s gouging law include gas, food and water, kerosene, hotel rooms, and other basic necessities. Attorney General Eric Schmitt says if you have a complaint over possible gouging, report it by calling 800-392-8222. Violators face fines of up to $1,000 per violation.
