What has turned into a controversial policy of closing the Camden County administration offices when Camdenton R-3 cancels school may be a violation of the state constitution. That’s what attorney Christopher Rohrer contends in his most recent open-records request sent to the county. At least some, if not all, county employees have received ‘snow days’ on their paychecks amounting to 8 hours each time the admin offices close, even though they don’t work in the admin offices and still reported to work those days. Rohrer says that appears to violate Article III, Section 39 which forbids giving public employees bonuses or extra benefits for work they are duty-bound to perform. Rohrer’s latest request also asks the county to provide proof of their claims that the policy started in 2003 and that they began discussing possible changes in the plan two weeks ago.
