For those watching the Shootout from the water this weekend, you’re reminded that there’s an extended no wake zone and some different idle speed zone rules you’ll have to abide by. The no-wake zone during the event stretches includes the main channel from the 31.5 mile mark to the 36. In addition, an extended idle speed zone will be in effect from 12-7pm Saturday stretching from the 31.5 downstream to the 21 mile mark. Captain Matt Walz from the water patrol says it’s an effort to increase boater safety and reduce property damage.
When the races are over, boaters won’t be permitted to just hang around until the regulations are lifted. You’re going to be asked to pull up anchor and filter out of the area beginning at 5pm.
