Memorial Day is considered the unofficial start of the summer season…the boating season…and also the recreational swimming season. The state park system wants to remind you that you can check the status of the park’s beaches online before you head out for your trip. The website is www.mostateparks.com. During the season, water samples are taken from all designated beaches on a weekly basis to determine if they’re safe from bacteria and other contaminants. If you plan on swimming this weekend, there are some area beaches that have advisories issued based on test results. Swimming is NOT advised this weekend at Lake of the Ozarks State Park Public Beach 1 on Highway 134 in Kaiser. Swimming is also not recommended at Pomme de Terre State Park Hermitage Beach on Highway 64B in Pittsburg. In addition, The Harry S. Truman State Park Day Use Beach in Warsaw is under an advisory …visitors there may use the campground beach instead.
